This would be for request messages that can subsequently be modified or
cancelled. So, for example, in the message header for request trade
confirmation you would reference the specific ID that would be used for
correlating subsequent modify or cancellation messages.
Our thinking was that we could introduce the concept as optional in the
4.x
series of standards, and make it mandatory for stateful request messages
starting from 5.0, to provide an easier transition.

Could you elaborate more on when and why stateful correlation, and
therefore
I presume a correlationObject element, would be 'mandatory'?
